Our Mission Statement
Change the world by providing a reason-based inclusive camp experience designed to create caring and inquisitive humans who want to create a compassionate and innovative future with a connection to the natural world.
Why 42?
Inspiration for our name came from the late Douglas Adams and his Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, in which 42 was the ultimate answer to life, the universe, and everything. At Camp 42, campers are encouraged to actively create meaning in their own lives and make a positive impact in their communities.
The number 42 has many other associations for Camp 42, each of which is used to illustrate our goals and values. These include:
- Social Justice and Equality from Jackie Robinson’s number 42 jersey.
- LGBTQ Inclusion and Inherent Worth as symbolized by rainbows, which we see reflected at an angle of 42 degrees from the original ray of sunlight.
- Scientific Inquiry and Evidence-Based Rationale from the atomic number 42, which is the element molybdenum (Mo), a trace element necessary for current life and hypothesized to be vital in the evolution of early cellular life. What do we want? Mo science!
